Energy Bill Provides Incentive for Cellulosic Ethanol

In the summer of 2007, Senate leaders met in Washington D.C. to debate the increase of the current Renewable Fuels Standard (RFS.  If passed the amount of renewable fuels produced would total 36 billion gallons produced per year. Benefiting the Cellulosic Ethanol Industry is the clause that 21 out of the 36 billion gallons must be met through cellulosic ethanol production. It has been said that this clause will do for the cellulosic ethanol industry, what the 2005 energy bill did for grain-based ethanol.

The continued investment in ethanol will bring hundreds of new jobs to cities throughout the nation. When the U.S. was producing only 5 billion gallons of ethanol per year, the plants in operation brought 160,000 new jobs. Producing seven times that much ethanol, to meet the 36 billion gallon standard, will certainly bring a strong boost to the American economy.
