Biodiesel Promotion and Quality Assurance Act Introduced

Biodiesel from Soy beans

The Biodiesel Promotion and Quality Assurance Act, by Senator Richard Durbin (D-IL), was introduced to Congress. The Act, if passed would gradually increase the amount of biodiesel and bio-based replacement diesel that is blendedto 1.25 billion gallons by 2012, beginning with 450 million gallons in 2008. The bill would require that the biodiesel and biodiesel replacement fuel be registered through the Environmental Protection Agency, meeting the requirements of the Clean Air Act, as well as the ASTM standard. The proposed legislation would also establish a federal inspection program that would ensure that fuels meet quality standards set forth by ASTM.
